The Taos Fall Arts Festival board announces its 37th annual TFAF Poster
Award artist, Steven Kilborn. His gouache painting, Cottonwood and Red Wall,
will be featured in all of the festival's 2011 marketing. Steven Kilborn, a
painter and ceramic artist, moved to Pilar in 1978 and opened his retail
space in Taos in 1994.

On Friday, Sept. 23rd, Stephen will be signing posters at both opening events,
the Distinguished Achievement Awards opening from 4 - 6 pm,
as well as the free public opening from 6 - 8 pm, at Rio Grande Hall.
His original painting for the poster "Cottonwood and Red Wall",
will be exhibited and for sale as well as other new work that he has been creating for the show.

TFAF board member Deborah Rael-Buckley stated "This year's poster award
submissions increased four fold due to the simple online submission process,
which gave the independent jurors an outstanding selection to choose from.
We hope that submissions for 2011 Taos Select will elicit similar interest."

The 2011 TFAF board would like to thank all of the artists who submitted
their amazing art works, Patsy Wright who helped artists navigate the new
system, and Rob Nightingale from Wilder-Nightingale Gallery for supporting
his artists by submitting several of his gallery artists.

2011 Festival poster jurors were:

The Annual Taos Fall Arts Festival has gone through some changes throughout its 36 years as one
of Taos’ most prestigious art shows. With a focus on showcasing Taos artists it became known as a
fundraiser for the former Holy Cross Hospital Foundation. More recently it has returned to being its own entity
and supports local charities of its choice.

However the focus remains the same: an annual exhibition of art created by local artists. 2011 will be its 37th year!
A mainstay of the Festival throughout has been the much collected poster. Initially a deceased artist was chosen,
then the board made the decision for a call for artists with a committee
selecting the submitted image they felt was most appropriate for a poster:

When asked for her reaction to having her image chosen in 2010, Inger’s response was:
“I am very happy and feel honored to be chosen as the poster artist for the Fall Arts Festival. As a Taos painter
this is a wonderful opportunity to show my work at this exciting event and represent the town that I love.”

Taos Fall Arts Festival Past President, Richard Alan Nichols, artist and past poster artist himself adds:
“Being chosen as the Fall Arts Festival Poster Artist is a huge honor for any artist.
For myself, I can say that it had a major impact on my success as an artist."

The following posters from past festivals can be ordered by sending an email to tfafvolunteer@taosfallarts.com
