Distinguished
Achievement Awards Series
The most exciting addition to the Taos Fall Arts Festival will
be the Distinguished Achievement Awards Series.
Named for important and influential historic Taos artists, the award
series will select three artists each year,
chosen independently, to receive acknowledgement for the quality and
nature of their work, and their established art career.
These three artists will present their work within the exhibition area
of Taos Select (formerly Taos Invites).
The TFAF board wanted to acknowledge and honor the well-documented artistic
history of Taos
and connect its legacy of creativity to the strong contemporary work
being produced in the area.
• G. Phil Poirier will receive the Tony Reyna
- Award for jewelry.
• Victor Goler will receive the Ted Egri Award
-Santo Nino Santero for sculpture.
• Julian Robles will receive the E.I.Blumenschein
– E.I. Couse Award
for figurative and landscape painting and drawing.
By naming the awards for past artists and linking them to contemporary
work,
we will be able to illustrate the continuation of the arts in Taos.
Next year, in support of Taos’ 2012 ad campaign - Remarkable Women
of Taos- three women will be selected to receive the awards in three
different media. Each year three Distinguished Achievement Awards will
be given until all categories are completed, then they will revert to
the first three awards and three new artists will be chosen to receive
them.
This year’s award ceremony will immediately precede the opening
of the festival on Friday, September 23 from 4:00 - 6:00pm. Tickets
will be $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door, and will feature hors
d’oeuvres and a cocktail hour,
as well as a chance to meet the artists and view their new works.

Taos Fall
Arts Festival Announces Return to Community Sharing
The TFAF board recently held the first of several Artist Salons, wherein
the art community was invited to listen to
details of recent changes made to TFAF 2011, and to share ideas about
how to improve the Taos’ largest art festival.
Approximately 60 artists and gallery owners attended and many good recommendations
were made.
In the past, TFAF has been associated with a fundraiser and it was suggested
more than once at the salon that the TFAF
return to our humanity and consider reconnecting with a community group
in need of financial help. After considering comments about reconnecting
to the community, the TFAF board unanimously agreed to provide funding
to local youth art programs by offering a donation at the end of the
festival. The board had already agreed to add a youth art show in conjunction
with the Taos Open to be called “Taos Youth Art, 17 and Under"
and funding a youth program seemed an important goal.
To that end, the TFAF board invited private art programs to submit a
letter of inquiry (three page maximum) to the TFAF Board stating their
specific program focus and funding needs by June 30, 2011 via mail to:
TFAF PO Box 675, Taos NM 87571,
or by email to: tfafvolunteer@gmail.com.
The chosen donation recipient will be announced at the festival’s
opening on September 23,
with a portion of net festival proceeds to follow.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to share your program with
the Taos community,
and to possibly obtain funding for future art projects.
“Taos
Art Colony” Group Photo
A
first for this year’s Fall Arts Festival is the “Taos Art
Colony” group photo at the KTAO Solar Center.
The potentially largest gathering of artists ever assembled in Taos
will include some of Taos’ most famous creative minds.
The public is invited to witness this historic occasion taking place
September 25th at 5:30 pm and talk with the artists who make up the
vibrant creative community.
The fun doesn’t end there, at 7:30 pm a dance party and cash bar
will kick off this year’s Fall Arts Festival.
